- Tree Lighting - The Jefferson, 101 W. Franklin St., Richmond, VA 23220
For many local residents, the holiday season officially begins with the Tree Lighting at the Jefferson, downtown Richmond's iconic hotel that has overseen more than 100 years of the city's history. The majestic building takes on even more grandeur during the holidays when it shines with the glow of thousands of twinkle lights. Other decorations include hundreds of live poinsettias, hundreds of yards of garlands and several dozen wreaths. The Circle Drive, Grand Staircase and Palm Court lobby serve as focal points, with the highlight being the fully bedecked 30-foot Christmas tree in the Rotunda. Kids love the gingerbread display which is designed based on a surprise theme that changes each year. The lighting takes place on Monday, 12/2 and the decorations are on display through Sunday, 1/5.

Brunch is a popular year-round way to gather with family and friends, and the Holiday Brunch at the Jefferson is an even more festive occasion. Local seasonal ingredients are the stars of the sumptuous menu, which includes seafood, soups, fruit and cheese, made-to-order omelets and other delicious items. Three dining areas are offered, each with their own special ambiance. Two-hour seatings are held at 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Brunch takes place each Sunday in December and the first Sunday in January, as well as Christmas Day. Prices are $95 for adults and $45 for ages 4-8.

Need a break from gift shopping? Take some time to unwind with a relaxing Holiday Tea. In addition to traditional tea, the Jefferson offers luscious Holiday Chocolate Lovers Tea along with Santa Tea for the kids. If anyone in your party has special dietary needs, options are available for gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free and vegan menus. Tea is served Monday through Saturday between 11/29 and 1/4. Chocolate Lovers Tea is served on Fridays and Saturdays as well as Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, while Santa Tea is scheduled for Saturday, 12/7 and Thursday, 12/19. Admission is $55-$85.

The sounds of the holiday are just as delightful as the sights at Let It Snow! The annual concert by the Richmond Symphony Orchestra features all your favorite holiday carols and seasonal songs with the accompaniment of the Hallelujah Chorus. This year's guest vocalist is Chesterfield native and American Idol contestant Carrie Brockwell. Showtime is 3 p.m. on Saturday, 11/30, and tickets are $10-$86.
