The Richmond area is known for its top-quality museums, and there really is something for everyone, from the science buff to the art enthusiast. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts offers free admission and is home to more than 50,000 beautiful creations. Through 2025, you can view the collection Ragamalas: Picturing Music & Emotion, which depicts heroes and heroines in South Asia. Another noted collection is Experimental Lines, which is a collection of Post-impressionist drawings.
The VMFA is open 365 days a year. They offer 50-minute guided walking tours several times a day. Pre-registration is not required. Consider looking at some Richmond homes for sale after the tour is over.

The Science Museum of Virginia offers exhibits that appeal to all ages. Kids love Discover Steam Punk, a hands-on exhibit that demonstrates how people in the 1800s imagined the future. The exhibit teaches important lessons about electricity, photography, and time travel. Another key attraction is the Dome Show, which teaches about space and the cosmos.
The Science Museum of Virginia is open Monday - Sunday from 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Admission is $17.50 for adults and $14.50 for kids ages 6 - 12.

Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer and poet known for works including The Raven and The Cask of Amontillado. He lived, for a time, in a stone house in Virginia, and that house later became The Poe Museum.
At The Poe Museum, you'll learn about Edgar Allan Poe's life and work. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth. The gift shop also boasts a great collection of books by Poe, along with other trinkets and souvenirs.

The Virginia Museum of History and Culture is a great place to learn about Virginia's origins and the people who have shaped the culture into what it is today. A popular, current exhibit is called Our Commonwealth. It showcases the five regions of Virginia, their geography, and their history.
Another noted exhibit is Julia Child: a Recipe for Life, which showcases the renowned chef's philosophy and achievements. The museum is open Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children.
- The John Marshall House: 818 East Marshall St., Richmond, VA 23219
John Marshall played a pivotal role in shaping the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1800s. He lived in Richmond for 45 years, and today, his home is preserved as a museum, the John Marshall House. It was sold to the City of Richmond by his family in 1907.
The John Marshall House is filled with first-hand accounts that provide valuable insight into life in the early 1800s. Docents offer a 45-minute walking tour, and you can also browse the space at your leisure. General admission tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
